PANCHAYATHI RAJ SYSTEM

The word democracy satisfys its meaning only when the power is divided or holds with the people itself.
The system or form of power holding by the people itself locally is called panchayati raj.
In 1957,Balvanth Rai committee submitted the panchayati raj recommendation to the central government.So, the birthday of shri.Balvanth rai (Feb.19) is considered as the national panchayati raj day.
There are about 3 tiers of panchayati raj systems in the rural areas.

  • Grama panchayath:

Is working in the very comman people.A small area of about 16-22 wards forming a Grama panchayath. It is headed by a President,Vice-president,Standing commitees. A members and President have protocoal respect.The executive head is the Panchayat Secratery.

  • Block panchayath:

The form of Lsg with More than 2 grama panchayats.More than 2 grama panchayath wards constitute 1 block panchayth ward. The head is the President.And the executive head is the Block officer.

  • District panchayath:

The jurisdiction area is whole the district except the municipal/Corparation areas. More than 1 block panchayath wards constitute 1district division. Head is the president and have 5 standing commitees are there. The institutions in the system is locally working with its own independant working rules,So such institutions are together known as LSG's (Local Self Governments's) In the citys and towns there are 2 form of Lsg's.

In Big citys Governed by Corperation:

Is headed by the Mayor. And supported by the members (known as Councilors).Mayor is having a slight Cabinet rank.Have Standing commitees of about 8. In Towns a form of governance as Municipality's. Headed by Chairman/Chairperson,supported by Councilors and Standing Committees. Whole the LSG's need to ensure the number of members on male and female in 50:50 ratio. And is mandatory.
